Encounter · A note from Ole

A walking gallery.

Someone takes a drawing out for a walk. It enters a street, a conversation, a place I have never been.

Varun and Morta wearing UKENA in Mexico City

Completed by you.

The garment leaves the studio, but its story keeps changing. The person wearing it brings their own life to it: where they go, whom they meet, what happens that day.

A canvas in everyday life.

For me, wearable art opens the work to encounters beyond an exhibition room. A musician takes it on stage. A couple packs it for a trip. Someone wears it at home. There is no single right setting.

The story comes back.

One of the best parts of UKENA is receiving photographs, reactions and stories from you. A work turns up somewhere unexpected. Someone sees something in a drawing that I had not seen. That exchange becomes part of it.

No instructions for the encounter.

It does not need to become a photograph or a story sent back to me. A passing look counts too. You give the work a life beyond mine.
